The Mediterranean diet is a diet that is based on traditional foods that people ate in the Mediterranean area back in the 1960s. Studies have shown that people who eat this type of diet are incredibly healthy compared to Americans, and they have the lowest rate of many lifestyle diseases.

Following a Mediterranean diet can cause weight loss, help prevent heart attacks, strokes, type II diabetes, and other diseases.

What is the Mediterranean diet?

The Mediterranean diet is very flexible because it has no hard and fast rules. The bulk of your diet will be vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, potatoes, and other whole grains. Fish and seafood are staples of this diet, along with extra virgin olive oil.

Poultry, eggs, cheese, and yogurt, which tend to make up the bulk of an American diet, should be eaten in moderation. Red meat should be eaten rarely. You should avoid drinking soda, eating anything with added sugars, processed meat, refined grains, or any other highly processed foods on the Mediterranean diet.

The Mediterranean diet is high in healthy fats and plant foods while being relatively low in animal foods. On this diet, however, eating fish and seafood twice a week is recommended.

The Mediterranean diet is very flexible because there are no rigid rules. Because of this, this diet can be both hard and easy to stick to. When switching to a Mediterranean diet, your focus should be on consuming a variety of vegetables and fruits while enjoying animal products in moderation.

There is no need to snack on this diet, but if you find yourself hungry between meals, you can enjoy a high-protein, low-carb snack such as Jawbox Jerky. While the Mediterranean diet suggests keeping red meat to a minimum, Jawbox Jerky has chicken jerky, which can fit into this diet better. Jawbox Jerky has enough protein in a single serving to help you feel full. It is also made from whole muscle cuts and contains only natural ingredients, so it fits perfectly with the guidelines of the Mediterranean diet.
