If you are looking for ways to lose weight and improve your lifestyle, you may have come across the Dukan diet. This diet requires people to eat high-protein foods and reduce their intake of carbs and fats. As most diets do, it focuses more on natural foods instead of packaged foods.

What is the Dukan diet?

The Dukan diet is based on the theory that eating protein can help people lose weight. The premise is that lean, high-protein foods are lower in calories, eating protein can help people feel full, and because digesting protein uses more energy, the body burns more calories. Ultimately, restricting carbs and fats induces a starvation-like state that forces the body to use fat stores for energy, similar to the Atkins diet.

The Dukan diet website lists 100 foods that are allowed on the diet. Of these foods, 68 are pure protein, and 32 are vegetables. There are four phases of this diet. The first phase is the attack phase, and it consists of eating food from the pure protein list. The goal is rapid weight loss. The attack phase lasts 2 to 5 days, but people trying to lose more than 40 pounds may stay in this phase for more than seven days.

The next phase is the cruise phase, which aims to lower a person’s body weight by adding 32 vegetables. In this phase, people can all 100 foods on the list, but they should alternate between protein and vegetable days. This phase depends on how much weight a person aims to lose and should last for three days per pound.

The next phase is the consolidation phase. This phase isn’t about weight loss. Instead, it is about avoiding regaining. This phase allows you to introduce some starchy foods and celebration meals. Finally, the last phase is the stabilization phase. This is the long-term maintenance part of the plan, and a person should not expect to lose or gain weight during this time.

While the Dukan diet may result in weight loss, there is controversy over its long-term health effects. However, whether you follow the diet or not, eating healthy and balanced meals is important. You should aim for meals and snacks that keep you full for longer, such as Jawbox Jerky, which is filled with high-quality protein, low carbs, and great flavor.
