It’s easy to get inundated with different diet plans and theories on how best to eat, but something that always comes up is the talk of macronutrients. Macronutrients are the three categories of nutrients that you eat the most and that provide you with the most energy.

The three macronutrients are protein, carbohydrates, and fat.

  1. Protein.Protein is made up of amino acids, and amino acids are the building blocks of all tissues in your body. Without an adequate amount of amino acids, your tissues will not grow correctly, and you will have health complications. Protein-rich foods and snacks, such as Jawbox Jerky, are also satisfying and can help you stay full for longer.
  2. Carbohydrates. Contrary to what we have been led to believe, carbohydrates aren’t bad for you. Carbohydrates are necessary to have a healthy diet. If you don’t eat enough carbohydrates, you will end up with cravings, headaches, and low energy. All carbohydrates aren’t created equally, so the key is to look for quality carbohydrates, such as the ones that come from fruits and vegetables.
  3. Fat. The last macronutrient is fat, and while it is also a necessary part of a healthy diet, it has gotten its fair share of demonization as well. People have been blaming fats for helping you put on weight since the 1960s. In reality, fats can help improve blood cholesterol levels, reduce inflammation, and help your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins.

The key to a healthy diet is a combination of the three most important macronutrients, protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Each one plays an important part in a healthy diet. Protein helps your tissues repair themselves while keeping you full for longer, carbohydrates give you the energy to go about your day, and fat can help your body absorb vitamins. Having a healthy balance of these three macronutrients will lead to long-lasting health.
